#SingaporeIsAFineCity Day 2 – Chinatown, Marina Bay Sands, Haji Lane, Gardens by the Bay, Merlion Park

Our itinerary for the whole trip was planned by my cousin living in the country. He served as our tour guide. We are just followers, so we didn’t have to do anything but to enjoy. He is an expert on backpacking trips and wanted us to experience that. We check-in for the night wherever our destination is.

P.S. Be warned that this is a very long post because we had a packed day.

Our first stop, Chinatown. Aside from Bugis, this is the best stop for souvenirs and anything cheap-buys.

Beds and Dreams

I’m not familiar with their rates, I apologize, because as I’ve mentioned earlier my cousin took care of everything. But, I am sure it is a backpacking rate. There is a mediterranean breakfast in the common dining. A common bathroom and free use of hair blower. You don’t have to stay in a fancy hotel because you only need somewhere to spend the night.

Half the day was spent on a free walking tour around chinatown and free food.  We were joined by our Aunt who also resides in Singapore, far longer than he does. The free walking tour was availed by my cousin on Tripadvisor. Even he, was surprised to find that there really is no fee. Most free walking tours ask for donations. We were even treated to a full traditional Singaporean meal – Laksa and Chicken Rice. I think it was funded by the government. I don’t know the name of the group, but I can ask my cousin if you like.

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum

According to their belief, if you rub this Buddha’s tummy, it will bring you good luck. So of course, I had to try.

Haji Lane

Somewhere in the shopping district Bugis is Haji Lane. It is a long shopping street located in the middle of Arab Quarter. I call it Singapore’s version of Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley.

Selfie Coffee Shop

You’d think this is the plastic cover, I thought so too at first, it’s the coffee itself. When you order, you will be asked to take a selfie on their camera.

Art Wall in a Subway Station

Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the bay is divided into three waterfront gardens: Bay South garden, Bay East Garden, and Bay Central Garden.

Flower Dome

Marina Bay Sands (MBS), Marina Bay

Toss a coin and if it shoots in the hole in the middle, you’ll get your wish. No such luck though.

Merlion Park

 Satay by the Bay

Enjoy a sumptuous meal of local food while enjoying the view of the waterfront.
